On Friday October 21st, a jackpot casino slots player traveled 12 miles from Larchmont to Empire City Casino, which is located in Yonkers, New York.
At 9.15pm, the man, who goes by the name of “Mel”, placed a $15 wager on a jackpot casino slots game called Wheel of Fortune, which is situated in the casino's Grand Victorian Room.
Due to winning the jackpot, that player is now $150,000 richer, and this could be considered as a great mileage reimbursement as he netted $12,500 per mile.
This was actually the second six-figure jackpot in a row won by a local resident of Hudson Valley. As recently as September 17th, Antoinette Marcelin, a player from Spring Valley, managed to win a total of $119,481. The winnings resulted from a $5 wager placed on the $1 denomination Bally's Quick Hit Black and White Jackpot machine in the Gotham Palace.
As for Empire City Casino, Mel’s $150,000 jackpot was actually the 11th time that a six-figure jackpot had been paid out by the casino.
During the summer, there were two others, and both of them involved Westchester County residents. On July 1st, Nancy from Mamaroneck bet $2 on a slot machine called Fireball, and this resulted in her winning a $140,000 jackpot. On August 11th, Tommy from Yorktown Heights managed to win $320,000. According to a casino official, Tommy wagered $200 on a slot machine called 3x4x5 Double Diamond.
A spokesman from the casino said that players can “expect more heat on the Wheel of Fortune machines.” He based this statement on the fact that the casino is currently offering a pair of $900,000 jackpots (and more), which are available to anyone who is feeling lucky enough to take a shot at winning it big.
